Shit am I really going to do this? Blogmas. Twenty Five posts leading you right up to Christmas day. Yes I know you’re only supposed to do Twenty Four but I don’t do anything half arsed and I really hate those advent calendars that don’t give you a box for Christmas Day. I’m already going to confess to the fact that I am doing Blogmas wrong. I don’t have a set Christmassy blog schedule ready to go. I haven’t even bought a tree, let alone do I plan to decorate one. And there isn’t a gift guide in sight. Whattttt!? I’m a budget blogger, I don’t spend money. And I won’t be telling you to waste it either.
I Want To Buy A House: Blogmas
So what is my Blogmas going to look like? Obviously, you’ll get a post a day. I’ve scheduled a ton of them already, and I’m feeling pretty confident about this whole thing. So you can expect them at 7pm every night. Secondly, these posts are going to be a bit more chatty. Rather than the more informative aka boring posts I usually upload about money and saving and finance. I thought I’d use Blogmas as a relaxed way for you to get to know me a bit better.
There are two reasons for this. Firstly, research takes a lot of time. And time is something I don’t have between uni and work and assignments. Secondly, I actually prefer writing like this. I’ve been doing a few guest posts recently, and have loved writing about other topics that aren’t exactly in my niche.
For my first chatty Blogmas post, I’m basically going to talk about myself for 700 or so words. Honestly, you can click straight off this post if you want. I realised that in the NINE MONTHS that I’ve been blogging, I have told you very little about myself. So cue my first Blogmas, which technically should have been my first ever post.
Natalka: The most Blogmas Name Ever
My name is Natalka. I was born in Brighton, and that’s exactly what I tell everyone when they ask where I’m from. The weird name comes from my Ukrainian Dad who didn’t realise that for my entire life I’d have to introduce myself like this:
“Hi, I’m Natalka. It sounds like talcumpowder.”
My Mum however, was Scottish. Sounds like a weird mix I know. But apparently not to the strange old man I served in Boots one day. I’m told that I’m not the first half Scottish, half Ukrainian girl he’s ever met. And I’m sure, after reading that, you’ll understand why I tell people I’m from Brighton.
On a side note, can you guess what Natalka means? It derives from the Latin name, Natalia (obviously). And Natalia was originally given to girls born on Christmas Day. All of the Natal** names derive from the Latin: diēs nātālis (Natal Day, Christmas). So there you have it, my name means born on (or near) Christmas. And I was born on the 28th of December, so I’d say that was pretty close. Facts aside, I think I prefer the Urban Dictionary definition:
So yeah, my first job was in Boots. I started as a Christmas temp. Notice how all this is coming together nicely for my first Blogmas post. I literally stacked shelves for minimum wage six days a week. Eventually they cut my hours down and I got a second job in Sainsburys. Then it was time for me to go to uni.
I got a place at Bournemouth University, studying a BA in Advertising. It was a bit of a rocky few years, maybe I’ll get into that in another post, but I had to work my way through that as well. I spent a little while working for Lands End in House of Fraser (which was awful). Honestly, I couldn’t wait to hand in my notice.
I then went on to do a years work placement back in Brighton. It was 9-5.30, Monday-Friday. Just like every other job. Except I wasn’t getting paid because I was meant to be giving my time in return for learning. Very questionable, and looking back I wish I hadn’t done that, but it’s done.
Where Am I Now?
Once I had that ticked off my uni’s ‘you must do this to pass to-do list’, I was back in Bournemouth. And I was £730 into my £800 overdraft, with rent due. I literally applied for everything I could find, and was so lucky to be offered a job by the following Monday. And that job, is the job I have now. Two years later, I’m working full time and studying a Masters that is no way Advertising related.
Obviously I’ve stepped up the ladder a bit, and long gone are my days of working for minimum wage (or nothing lol). But 90% of the reason this job has been so successful is because I love it. And with Christmas coming back around, there’s a lot of planning and marketing bits and pieces for me to pick up that keep me entertained. I’m not saying I’m going to be there forever, but for now (and especially for this Christmas), it will do.
There you go then. A little summary of me. This post doesn’t rank for SEO for any keywords, and is probably going to bring my DA falling back down. But I enjoyed banging on about my life a little bit. And I don’t think there are enough hours in the day to write a well researched post, promote it, go to uni, complete both assignments I have due in December, and work 5/6 ten hour shifts a week. I mean, who needs food sleep or showers anyway.
