10+ Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
Use a lemon to remove any water spots from taps and chrome features in your bathroom. Just cut a lemon in half and rub it over the spotty area to reveal the shine.
Eliminate Bathroom Odours!
This bathroom cleaning hack involves a bit of DIY, but is a great way of removing that pee smell from your bathroom. To start, make a paste by squeezing the juice of one lemon into a bowl and adding baking soda. You need the paste to be the consistency of a thick cake batter.
Rub the paste anywhere you think there is a pee build up. The seat, back of the toilet, where the toilet meets the floor, and underneath the rim of the stool area are great places to start. Leave the paste to sit for 15 minutes. Whilst you’re waiting, add half a cup of vinegar to your toilets water tank. After 15 minutes, use a washcloth to remove any leftover paste. And flush your toilet 2-3 times to flush out the vinegar. Fresh smelling bathroom every time guaranteed!
Before you go…
And if you’re going to go to that much effort to remove odours from your bathroom, you should probably use this hack to stop them forming in the first place. Before you go spray is fairly new on the market, but has been blowing up. Essentially, it’s a blend of ingredients that work to eliminate and prevent odour build up. So you spray it down the toilet before you use it, and there will be no smell!
Or course, it’s expensive… but you can make it for next to nothing! All you need is witch hazel, purification essential oils, and water (all ingredients are linked above). Put 15 drops of witch hazel and 15 drops of purification essential oil into a small spray bottle and fill with water. You’re done. Honestly, cheap and easy just like I promised this list of bathroom cleaning hacks would be.
Drip Dry your Toilet Brush
After you’ve given your toilet a good scrub, wedge the brush handle in between the toilet seat. That way, the germs and gross residue will drip into the toilet rather than sit on the floor.
I’m Not A Fan…
This isn’t even a hack. It’s super easy but people just avoid it, myself included. Everyone has an exhaust fan in there bathroom right? It draws out the moisture to prevent a build up of damp and mildew. In doing so, it also draws in a lot of dirt and dust. And it’s probably the cause of an unavoidable stench in your bathroom if you’ve yet to give it a good scrub. All you need to do is take it apart. This is usually fairly simple, although you will need a screwdriver. Make sure you unplug it! And then wipe it clean with a damp lint free cloth.
Un Gross your Grout
Tile grout can look manky quite quickly. Other than scrubbing and scrubbing it, there’s not much you can do to keep it looking fresh. Until now. Someone has invented bleach pens making it easier than ever. Just grab yourself a bleach pen from the list above, and get to work on your grout. It will look brand new in no time.
Simple Hack for your Shower Curtain
You can put your shower curtain in the washing machine. Mind blown. Yes, even the plastic ones. Literally just unclip it from your shower rail and stick it in on a regular wash cycle. It will come out spotless.
Marvel at the Mirrors
I feel like there are loads of cleaning tips for mirrors. Everyone cleans them differently. But no one does it quite as cheaply as I do. Yep. I have found a method to clean your mirrors that is even cheaper than white vinegar and old newspaper. Tea.
No, literally. I mean you can use tea to clean your mirror. You need to brew a really strong tea and then rub it on to your grubby mirror in circular motions. The trick to getting a streak free shine is to use a lint free cloth – what would Mrs. Hinch do ayye? Dryer sheets are always lint free, but might hold too much tea to make this hack successful. You can get these lint free clothes super cheap, or check out your local pound shop! Once you’ve rubbed the tea over the mirror, buff it dry with a clean cloth and you’re done.
Get rid of that white crusty build up around your shower head and taps by filling a plastic bag with white vinegar and attaching these bags to the grime. The trick it to ensure that the area that needs attention is completely submerged in the vinegar. Use a hairband to keep the bag on those hard to reach areas. Leave it for as long as possible, then watch as the limescale wipes off.
Miracle Cleaner for your Tub
Sometimes you get that hard water stain running down your bath tub making it look awful. The stain is a nightmare to clean off, but this hack should make it easier for you. It’s less of a hack, and more of an industrial cleaner that I was introduced to at work. Bar Keepers Friend. Heard of it? It’s a white powder that you just need to sprinkle on the stain, leave for a minute or so, then scrub with a damp sponge. The stain will lift off and this will be the one of the best bathroom cleaning hacks you’ve ever heard.
General Tub Grime
If the problems not as severe as hard water stains, you won’t need to go all out with the Bar Keepers Friend. Just slice a grapefruit in half, sprinkle it with salt, and use that to scrub your bath. I’ll admit it works best if you fill the bath and leave it soaking with salt water for a little while before you start. But if you don’t want to waste water, and are willing to put in a bit of elbow grease, this hack works wonders. And it leaves your bathroom smelling great to.
You know that thick slimy lining on your shower curtain and tiles? Well that’s soap scum, and it’s super easy to remove. All you need is a cooking spray (Frylight or an alternative). Spray your cooking spray on the walls, shower curtain, and any area that is covered in soap scum. Leave it for 10 minutes. And you’re practically done, the slime will just wipe away with a warm damp cloth.
